River House will be open from 1pm on 31 December, serving our cicchetti menu until 5pm.

We shall be serving our Hogmanay menu from 6pm and politely ask that tables are vacated by 11pm.

Please note our cicchetti and full menu are also available throughout December.

ON ARRIVAL


A glass of Franciacorta, Italy’s best kept secret, with a trio of mini Crostini:
* Orkney crab, capers and tomato *
* Scottish smoked salmon and roasted peppers *
* Chicken liver pate with caramelised red onion *


TO START

 

Pan seared Shetland scallops
butternut squash and sweet potato purée, finished with a brown shrimp and hazelnut butter

Venison bresaola
purple fig, pine nuts,rocket and pecorino, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and aged balsamic

River house fish stew
mussels, king prawns, crab, clams and queenie scallops tossed in a tomato based sauce topped with grilled fillet of sea bream and finished with a West Coast langoustine. Served with chunky bread and aioli


MAIN EVENT

 

Grilled fillet of wild sea bass
sautéed pancetta and winter greens with a parsnip purée and a rich red wine sauce

Char grilled fillet of Scotch Beef
served on dauphinoise potatoes a medley of green vegetables and a caper, rosemary and heritage tomato beurre noisette

Steamed Shetland halibut
with a shellfish risotto, clams and samphire 


DESSERT

 

Drambrulee
with raspberries and shortbread

Chocolate and salted caramel mousse
with chocolate brownie chunks, whipped mascarpone and chocolate shards

Trio of Scottish cheeses
Dunsyre Blue, Highland Brie and Orkney Cheddar
served with honey, walnuts and Caithness oatcakes

My better half’s pavlova
with poached pears, chantilly cream and warm toffee sauce
