What’s it all about Alfie ?

Allan “Alfie” Little is the chef proprietor of River House Restaurant in Inverness.

Born in Truro in 1970, and brought up in the small Cornish port of Fowey, Alfie has always had an admiration for the sea. Whether it be sailing, gig boat racing or simply cooking and eating the many “fruits” it has to offer – he has embraced it all!

It was whilst growing up in Cornwall, that he discovered his passion for good food. Not unlike the Highlands of Scotland where he now has his own restaurant, Cornwall first introduced Alfie to fresh local farm produce and an abundance of fish and seafood.

Upon moving to Inverness, Alfie became heavily involved in the creation of the Highland Food Festival, promoting all that is good about local food.

Today, he uses locally sourced top quality produce, for his menus. He prides himself on the great rapport he has built up with local fishermen, fishmongers, butchers, farmers and fruit and vegetable producers, thus enabling him to use the “best of the best”.

Over the past 21 years, Alfie has taken River House to new highs, and its top quality food and drink along with the staff and atmosphere is regularly reviewed on Tripadvisor and other review sites.

However, most recently, his dedication to the youth of today has been recognised by the Highland Council for his work and  generous giving of time, to pupils at local secondary schools, where he shares his knowledge and love of food, nutrition and cooking. This has always been an issue close to Alfie’s heart and one which he finds very rewarding.
